Bristol art exhibition invites viewers to ‘become animal’

become animal

Venue:  Centrespace Gallery, 6 Leonard Lane, Bristol BS1 1EA
Opening launch:  Friday 30 August, 12 noon to 8pm
Open daily: Friday 30 August to Wednesday 4 September from 12 noon to 6pm

Karen Piddington, multi-disciplinary artist, presents ‘become animal’, an exhilarating and eclectic collection of challenging work, including film installations, sound, animation, documentary, sculpture and drawings.

This show confronts fixed ideas about human and animal identities. It entices the viewer into a process of transformation – going beyond what you think you know and into something other.

The work weaves the real and the imagined to create a mode of communication that is less language-driven. It is an invitation to inhabit animal energy and to allow it to inhabit you, to lose self awareness and to experience the animal as other.

The show is intended to challenge, excite and shift perceptions, and offer insight into what happens when artist and animal meet in the context of contemporary art. The work conjures a feeling of ambiguity, supporting the idea of things in transformative states.

Admission to the exhibition is free and there is an open invitation to meet the artist at the opening day, from noon-8pm on Friday 30 August - with drinks.

Open daily from 12 noon to 6pm.
Open to the public from 30 August to 4 September 2019
